About SmarterBoxDIY
What is SmarterBoxDIY?
A free website of step-by-step guides to fix everyday tech problems yourself: phones, computers, printers, Wi-Fi and smart TVs. Read more on our About page.
Who runs SmarterBoxDIY?
SmarterBox Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 16160532. You can check us for free on Companies House (opens in a new tab).
Are the guides really free?
Yes. Every guide is free to read. You don't need an account, and you never need to pay or download software to follow one.
Is SmarterBoxDIY linked to Apple, Samsung or other brands?
No. We name brands only to say which devices a guide is about. SmarterBox Limited isn't affiliated with, or endorsed by, those companies.
Using the guides
How do I find the right guide?
Go to our guides page and pick your device or problem. Each guide starts with a short answer, then clear numbered steps.
My screen doesn't match the guide. What should I do?
Menus differ between makes, models and software versions. Look for a similar option name. If you're still unsure, stop and ask a person rather than guess.
How are the guides made?
Every guide is written by the SmarterBox team, and a person follows every step on a real device before it's published. Our Editorial Policy explains how.
I found a mistake in a guide.
Thank you. Please tell us which guide and which step, and we'll check and correct it.
Do you have video guides?
Videos are in production. Until they're ready, every guide has written steps you can follow at your own pace.
Safety and your data
Can following a guide delete my files?
Some steps, such as resets, can. Those guides carry a clear warning. Always back up anything you can't lose before you start.
Will a guide affect my warranty?
Our guides use your device's own settings. Opening a device or using unofficial parts can affect your warranty, so check with the manufacturer first.
A pop-up says my computer is infected and gives a number. Is it you?
No. SmarterBoxDIY never shows pop-ups asking you to call a number. Close the page and read our fake tech support warning.
Someone contacted me saying they're SmarterBoxDIY. What should I do?
Our guides are free, so don't pay anyone for one, and don't let anyone onto your device. Check with us first. See Someone using the SmarterBoxDIY name?
Getting more help
I'm stuck halfway through a guide.
Stop where you are, don't force it, and ask a person. SmarterBox Limited's support team can help: call 0330 027 3093 or visit smarterboxuk.co.uk (opens in a new tab).
Is help from a person free too?
The guides are free. Help from the SmarterBox Limited support team is a paid service from smarterboxuk.co.uk, and they'll explain any cost before you agree to anything.
Can I suggest a guide?
Yes, please. Tell us the problem you'd like help with and the device you use.
